The land for Stony Run Winery possesses a rich history as the home of Round Ridge Vineyard since 1992. Original plantings were French American hybrids as well as California clones of vinifera, which weren't well suited for the cooler climate of the native vineyard location. Upon acquisition in 2013, we planted on a section of the estate where elevation and positioning presented warmer temperatures more suitable for viniferas.
Stony Run Winery is in, what we like to call, "the sweet spot". To our north, the Finger Lakes produce world class whites. To the south, Virginia produces memorable reds. Due to our foothill microclimates, we have both the warmer temperatures needed to produce exceptional reds as well as the cooler climates to produce exceptional whites. Our reds are planted on the estate’s southern exposure giving them long days of sunlight and warmth. Our whites are nestled in the hills with cooling northern exposure.
Stony Run Winery now grows 20 varieties. We selected the best white varieties from around the world, including Austria's Gruner Veltliner, Spain's Albarino, Italy's Pinot Grigio, New Zealand’s Sauvignon Blanc, and more. We also have all traditional five Bordeaux varieties to make a true Bordeaux. Since very few wineries are growing all five varieties, Stony Run Winery offers an exclusive chance to enjoy an age old, highly regarded wine right here in Pennsylvania.
Grapes aside, there's more to the end product than high quality fruit. Our complementary working parts are comprised of state of the art French and Italian technology as well as an accomplished and passionate crew, which includes a wine consultant from Mendoza, Argentina.
We don't just say "a great wine is made in the vineyard." We live it. We live it through our use of world-class grapes, grown 100% on our land; through our unique microclimates and diverse terroir; through our innovative equipment and talented crew. These elements necessary for great wine, we experience them everyday, but we'd love to share that experience with you. Please visit soon or grab a bottle of our wine in a store near you (coming soon).
