Stony Run Winery grows over 20 different old world vinifera and hybrid grape varieties across the 60 acres we farm. We take our viticulture seriously, managing each variety of grape differently to maximize the quality of the fruit.
Pruning, shoot thinning, vine training, shoot positioning, leaf pulling, cluster thinning and setting, vine hedging, and ground cover maintenance are all managed differently for each varietal. More importantly, these things are essential in striking the perfect balance of yield and flavor concentrations and profiles for each variety. In harvest, monitoring brix, acidity, and flavors of each variety with an eye towards stylistic winemaking goals helps ensure top quality and perfectly ripened fruit. Vineyard soil fertility is managed with natural compost applied to the base of our vines as needed.
With a long term view towards sustainable viticulture, we improve our vineyard management every year to ensure our premium wines will get better and better in the years to come.
